The art of wooden craftmanship, part II
Part of our Industrial Engines line, the P3/02 is inspired by the wooden decking found on luxury yachts.
In December 2015 the latest SEVENFRIDAY Off Series, the P2B/03-W, was released. Limited to 450 pieces, this new addition to our Industrial Revolution line is inspired by historic industrial production methods, hand-hammered copper, old iron tools and the art of woodcraft. The key feature of this piece is the animation ring which is constructed from American walnut, beech and solid cherry timbers stacked up to form seven contrasting layers of wood.
The P2B/03-W holds an important place in SEVENFRIDAY’s short history. It builds on the design features of the original Sevenfriday Revolution watch, the P2/01, but continues the wooden construction that the P3/02 Off-Series brought to the brand in 2013. The P3/02 is part of our Industrial Engines line, inspired by the wooden decking found on luxury yachts. The first Woody features a red 24h disc, blue seconds disc and an animation ring constructed from one solid piece of Canadian walnut timber.
This model was limited to just 350 pieces worldwide and released in the summer of 2013. A few days after release the P3/02 was being referred to by owners on social media as the ‘Woody’ and this simple nickname gave the watch a strong personality and cemented its place as a fan favourite.
"The 'P2B/03-W' aka the Woody!"
The new P2B/03-W retains the same 47 x 47.6mm lugless case making the face seem bigger than it actually wears. The watch is powered by the same automatic Miyota 82S7 engine with a 40h power reserve and P-Series trademark skeleton feature which has been extended to show the workings from the 4 o’clock through to the 8 o’clock.
The main feature is the unique wooden animation ring but there are a lot of other new details with this latest Off-Series. The Stainless Steel case has a gun metal grey PVD treatment instead of the polished steel of the P3/02. The new interface includes copper highlights as with all SEVENFRIDAY watches inspired by the Industrial Revolution but this is the first in that family with Super Luminova. This ‘lume’ is featured on the hour hand and the 12 different hour indicators, making it easy to read in low light.
This watch is also the first model outside the V-series to have our new NFC CP mechanism which is used with our app and an NFC compatible smartphone to register the watch then active a whole host of new features arriving in 2016. The caseback has been completely redesigned and embodies our transparency policy reflecting, not in a shy way, the worldwide aspect of the product’s origins. The industrial number is listed on the caseback along with confirmation that the model is limited to 450 units.
The highlight feature of the P2B/03-W is the animation ring constructed from seven layers of American walnut, beech and solid cherry timbers. These diffent woods were cut, shaped, individually lacquered, layered and then bonded together by master craftsmen at Watschinger, an Italian luxury woodcrafting business with over 60 years experience. The result is a truly unique SEVENFRIDAY that takes what the first ‘Woody’ achieved adding seven times more crazy, a splash of lume and an interface redesign.
